BISAR

Berlin International Skateboard Artists Residence

BISAR
The Bisar’s project is an Oxylane Art Foundation’s production and begin in january 2011 in Berlin.
BISAR’s residence is organized with artists living and working during 6 monthes in a common space, open on a city sensitive to the forms of contemporary expressions and to the public.
The vocation of this artistic approach is to favor the mutual influences, the birth of particular synergies around the same subject of study: the skateboard.

An ideal context

The feeling of membership is lively at the Berliner’s. So, the dialogue between the artists and the city is particularly intense. The city is their playground and the artistic limits between the public place and the private space are indefinite. Very popular, the practice of the skateboard
lives in and with the city. It’s considered as a sport, a means of transportation but also as a real lifestyle. To investigate all the facets of the theme and make body with the urban dimensions, the participation of the Berliners and their interactions with the artists are essential.

An opened residence

The studios of the resident artists are in the whole of Kunstraum Bethanien, a space of exhibition for the contemporary art in the center of the city, and are opened to the visit during all the duration of the project.
Living being, the residence has for ambition to lead several evenings concert and a cycle of conference of three months on the skateboard which will present texts, videos and reflections of artists, sociologists, town planners, on the subject. It will also be the occasion to propose a supplied schedule so that definitively the outside invites itself inside and in closer of the approach of creation.

A polyhedral group

BISAR thus proposes a space dedicated to welcome, to collect any shape of inspiration and expression linked, stemming or relative to the skateboard. To facilitate the mixe of the disciplines, the artistic interaction, the artistic Foundation invited 5 polymorphic artists. So, two video directors, a composer, a plastics technician, two draftsmen are going to have the opportunity to work around their perception of the skateboard, to mix their approaches.
